It does so much.

This was a throwaway idea for a cholesterol-lowering product. Much detritus of this sort accumulates as a result of brainstorming with Photoshop open.

History of the "I heart NY" campaign -- it was created by master designer Milton Glaser, and has since been borrowed from and outright ripped off by hundreds if not thousands of T-shirt designs and bumper stickers. If everyone was paying royalties for the use of his work, Glaser would be one of the richest men on the planet.

The Bureau Adjustment

On returning to their apartment, they encountered two suspicious-looking men in the doorway. "Who are you?" He asked.  "What have you done to my couch, my table, my tasteful art deco desk?"
"Your furniture has been... adjusted."

I voted for a bird

These were made about two years ago. They seemed more relevant then.

James goes rogue

This is me being my own art director. Everything looks better with a drop shadow, right?

Caveat, Junior Advertiser

If you're just getting into the business, make sure you realize that it's more like this:

...and not so much like this:

So when people say, "Hey, advertising, that must be just like Mad Men," my usual response is "I wish." Not all the time, but usually, it isn't like that at all.

Leadslingers Launch

Less than a year ago, Yan and I began working at a downtown ad agency. We're the junior team, bright, shiny, and new. We aren't surprised when the client asks for a bigger logo; we are surprised when we can leave at five. We might drink more coffee than beer, but either way, we're probably coming up with something creative while we're at it. We come up with a lot of stuff. Sometimes our job is just keeping the recycle bin full, but that's OK. We're used to it. We grind our pencils down to the nubs and fill pages full of lead. That's why we're Leadslingers.

I'm James; my job is putting semicolons in the right places and spelling words like 'copacetic'. You won't find that in Spellcheck.

Yan can draw things quickly, accurately, and is all-around pretty awesome. More importantly, his imagination is always at work, sensing patterns and connections between concepts, revealing a beautiful and powerful image where others see only chaos. Most importantly, he is a good guy to get a beer with.

Most of what we do is not allowed to appear on this blog, but I think we can get away with showing a few things that wouldn't see the light of day otherwise.
